Having run this event for the last 9 years, Activate’s challenge was to work with the client team to create something different both for the conference and party elements of this event. The meeting content was based around the theme ‘Ahead of the Curve’ and therefore we were asked to assist with both the format and delivery of this message.
The initial solution to the event brief was the selection of the Hilton Metropole Brighton as the venue for this event. This was based on the location being within an hour’s journey time for most of the delegates together with the variety and flexibility of event space on-site, combined with enabling the majority of the bedroom requirement being under the one roof.
We met the presentation brief by suggesting the use of a large ultra-wide screen format giving the ability for the multiple media elements to be viewed simultaneously. This included powerpoint, video, voting/texting and live-camera to support a range of different presenter formats. We also created an app to enable live delegate feedback which was the central element of a leadership Q&A panel at the end of the day.
The Gala Dinner was to take place back in the main conference space, which involved a hectic two hours to turn it from conference into a highly impactful ‘Grease’ themed party venue. Following dinner and the presentation of a small number of staff awards, we supported the theme with a bespoke interactive theatrical performance and a 13 piece soul band. Other themed activities included the creation of a 50’s American Diner and Fairground including dodgems.
The overall event was seen as a significant success with the use of the wide screen, app and gala dinner entertainment being the highlights. The delegate feedback was ‘universally positive’ with senior management reaction being that the event achieved the required results ‘as always’.
